Enjoying a delicious platter of cheese + nibbles with Rivergold Cabernet Sauvignon 2016 and Classic White 2016!

 

 

 

  

"A red wine drinker going back 50 years, I was turned off after repeated after taste in the back of the throat and headaches the morning after. Too many chemicals! Over the years I found my palate changed and the well known eastern States brands were too heavy to drink during our hot summers here in Western Australia. We turned to whites, preferring a clean, crisp, Classic White. However, just when we found one to suit,  the manufacturer would change the blend and the search was on again.

Then about five years ago we discovered Rivergold Estate. Boasting low preservatives, their Classic White, Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz are produced from grapes grown at Cowaramup, near Margaret River in the South West of Western Australia. In 2017, the Rivergold Estate Classic White 2016 vintage (black screw cap) won Bronze at the Perth Royal Show wine awards. It boasts a tropical fruit flavour and can be enjoyed with or without food. I've just opened a carton of the new 2019 Classic White (aqua blue cap) and I'm finding that more refreshing than the Perth Show winner, so it will be interesting to see if producers Alex and Mel Mitchell take that to the next Show. I've had a carton of the 2016 Shiraz on the shelve and that has certainly improved with age, with only one bottle remaining!

My favourite though is the 2017 Rivergold Estate Cab Sav served chilled, straight from the fridge. Both in summer or winter, I like it chilled. It's refeshing and not a hint of heartburn nor headache. We frequently holiday in the Northern Territory and Darwin hotels also serve a chilled red straight from the fridge due to the hot weather in the Top End. Plenty frown at the suggestion of chilled reds....many have. I say try it.......you might be surprised. This Rivergold Estate works for us. Well done folks."
